August 2016

I hope you and your children enjoyed a fun-filled summer vacation and that you are as excited as we are at Thoreau to start the 2016-17 school year! I am looking forward to a successful and productive year and can’t wait to welcome you and your students back to school next week.

I am thrilled to welcome you back into the Thoreau School community. If you are new to our school you will quickly realize that you have landed in a wonderful place. The staff is not only warm, but also incredibly dedicated. We have been hard at work preparing to welcome your children back to school.
In preparation for the opening of school, I would like to invite you to visit our website: https://thoreau.concordps.org where you will find many helpful links including one for the updated Parent and Student Elementary School Handbook. This handbook outlines the district’s operational policies for all elementary schools and details our mission and vision statements for all students. Attached to this letter you will find a staff list, background information about the Thoreau School and information about routines specific to our school. Another important document you will receive today is our Student Health/Emergency Information/Permission to Treat Form; please return this form no later than Friday September 9, 2016. On our website you will also find a link to the Thoreau Parent- Teacher Group’s website: http://www.thoreauptg.org. Our PTG works to strengthen the home/school connection by supporting our school community in a variety of ways. Please stop by their website to see how you can get involved in this wonderful organization.

The staff and I are looking forward to a terrific first day of school on Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Please note that this is a full day for students in grades K-5 and that school begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. with dismissal at 3:30 p.m. We will begin dismissing the students promptly at 3:30 p.m. and parents who pick up their students should meet them on the black top behind the school near the basketball court. In the event that it rains, pick up will take place in the cafeteria.
I believe in partnership for success and look forward to meeting and working with you during the new school year. Enjoy the last remaining days of summer!

Warmly,
Angel Charles Principal
