March 6, 2026

March has arrived, and it’s a full month with plenty to accomplish. We’re especially excited for upcoming events, including a visit from the CMS Celtics Playbook Initiative leaders. This program, led by CMS student leaders including former Huskies, is an anti-bias and anti-discrimination initiative that promotes equity, respect, and inclusion while helping students build teamwork, resilience, and character.

Our all-school meeting on March 18th will bring the entire Thoreau community together, and students in grades 3–5 will begin MCAS testing. Meanwhile, all grades continue to engage in powerful learning experiences, field trips, and enrichment opportunities, including the STEAM Lab, Gaining Ground, Concord Museum, and our School Book Club.

I’m always amazed by the creativity, curiosity, and enthusiasm of our students as they explore, collaborate, and grow. March is a month to keep momentum, celebrate learning, and continue building a strong, connected community.

I hope you all enjoyed a restful and fun February break. Our return was certainly a little different from what we expected, with the additional snow days mixed in, but by Wednesday, it seemed like everyone was more than ready to be back together. The half day and shortened week actually gave us a nice, gentle transition back into our routines.

We were thrilled to welcome our Huskies back into their classroom communities and jump right back into meaningful learning. On Wednesday evening, our Student Council had the opportunity to present at the School Committee meeting and share the powerful work they’ve been leading. It was a wonderful moment to highlight such thoughtful student leaders and the impact of their mantra this year: Kindness and Connection.

The last week before break was filled with strong teaching and learning, along with meaningful enrichment opportunities for our students. The highlight of my week, and perhaps the entire year, was the Student Council’s field trip to the Council on Aging to deliver the Valentine’s Day cards our school community created for more than 100 seniors during their brunch.

It was a truly special experience, and we could not be prouder of our student leaders. Their kindness, confidence, and sense of community were on full display.

We’re also excited to share that local news stations picked up the story! If you’d like to take a look, click on READ STORY below!

I’m glad the kids were able to enjoy some snow this week, and hopefully made the most of the snow day! We were also happy to get outside to play, which was a nice treat.

Looking ahead, we have our Winter Walk to School Day planned for Wednesday. We’ll keep an eye on conditions and will confirm whether streets and sidewalks are clear enough to walk safely.

Grades close next Friday, and progress reports will be released the following Friday. As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
