Dear Thoreau Families,
It is hard to believe that September is already here! Staff returned to school last week and have been hard at work preparing classrooms for receiving students again. There is a spirit of genuine excitement building up throughout the school. Although we know it will be challenging, we are all incredibly excited to be reopening in a few short days!
This email includes important information about class placement, the Thoreau Reopening Handbook, laptops for remote instruction, and the reopening forum for parents.
Class Placements: Class placements will be posted to the Aspen Parent Portal at 5pm this evening. If you have forgotten your account credentials or if your account is locked, please email parentportal@concordps.org during business hours to have it reset. Due to a variety of factors, class placements are final. For students enrolled in the Thoreau Remote Academy, class placement indicates the homeroom that your child would be assigned to were they attending in person. It also indicates which class grouping your child will be assigned to for afternoon specialty classes. The Remote Academy staff will be reaching out shortly with specific information about remote instruction.
Thoreau Reopening Handbook: The Thoreau Reopening Handbook is finally ready! The reopening handbook includes a comprehensive overview of both district wide and Thoreau school specific protocol that have been put into place in preparation for reopening schools. You will find most of the Thoreau specific items in the Operations section.
Parent Forum: I will be hosting a parent forum on Thursday, September 3rd from 3-4pm. Please join me for an overview of the protocol and procedures in the handbook as well as time for asking questions. The forum will be recorded. It would be helpful if you could review the handbook before the forum. The link is below:

Technology for Remote Learning: As you may have seen in Dr. Hunter’s email from yesterday, we are very happy that we are going to be able to provide individual devices to all students to support their remote learning this year. We expect to receive these devices within the next few weeks. If there are any families who will be unable to access remote instruction without a device immediately, we ask that you complete this survey so we can distribute devices to you now. If you can manage without a school provided device for the next two weeks, we would greatly appreciate you waiting until our new shipment arrives. This will help streamline our distribution process.
