Circulation Policies

Checkout
All students are encouraged to check out materials during their weekly library class time. The loan period is one week, with renewals allowed as needed.

If a student wishes to return items and check out new ones before his or her next library class, he or she may come to the Library before school or at any other time that the teacher allows.

Kindergarteners and first-graders may check out one item at a time. Second through fifth graders may check out two items, but only one graphic novel, magazine, or audiobook at a time. Students may also borrow additional materials for classroom projects.

Selection
We offer a selection of materials for all interests and reading abilities, including books, magazines, books on CDs, and (for grades 3 to 5) books on MP3 players. We encourage students to choose materials appropriate for their interests, grade level, and reading level. Parents and guardians are welcome to discuss their child's reading choices with the librarian.

Overdues and Damaged Books
Students receive verbal reminders if their library books are overdue. After about a month, a reminder/bill will be mailed home. While we do not charge daily fines, we do charge replacement fees if the book is lost or if materials are damaged beyond repair. Since the money collected is used to purchase replacements, refunds are given only if an item is returned within six months of its due date.
