October 1

Dear Thoreau Families,

All things considered, our students and staff have had an excellent start to the school year.   I can’t tell you how wonderful it has been to be reunited with our students and all of you.  As we continue to refine and adjust our routines and troubleshoot issues as they arise, I wanted to share a few updates with you and thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Upcoming Events: Please find the updated school calendar here.

10/12 Columbus Day, No School

10/13  Professional Day, No School

10/16  PTG Meeting, 9:30 AM

10/16-23  Virtual Book Fair

Devices:
We are thrilled to announce that, by the end of the week, all students will have received their district-provided tablets and laptops.  Many thanks to Assistant Principal Sue Howard, Librarian Julie Turner, Library Assistant Motoko Mitarai and the IT department for their leadership and management of such a large scale effort!  In order to be sure you receive your device as soon as possible, please be sure to return your signed borrower agreement to Ms. Howard.  Here are a few links you might find helpful as we begin our 1:1 program at the elementary level: For more information about the elementary 1:1 computer device program, visit this site.  For more information about technical support for these devices and the software students will use, visit this site.

Charging Devices:
All students participating in the Concord Rec afternoon program should remember to bring a fully charged device to school each day.

Changes to Dismissal Plans:
Please send in a note to your child’s teacher if you need to change his/her dismissal plans for that day. If you need to change your child’s dismissal plan unexpectedly, please notify the office by 11:30 AM as an email to the teacher may not be seen until after last period.

Remote Learning Time:  When students are engaged in remote instruction, we respectfully request that teaching and learning time between instructors and students be uninterrupted.  When additional individuals in the home are attempting to engage with the instructors, learning is disrupted for all students in the session which can be quite challenging. If you have questions for an instructor, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email or phone.  Thank you!
