March 2020

Coronavirus Update:  (as of 3/11/20)
As the information about the COVID-19 continues to evolve we are reviewing each school event carefully.  Per Dr. Hunter’s latest update, “All non-essential large group events are cancelled for the next two weeks, beginning tomorrow. Emails from each school will notify you of the specific cancellations. We are following Massachusetts Department of Public Health guidance found at https://www.mass.gov/info-details/covid-19-prevention-and-treatment

Regarding Thoreau-specific events:

  • The third grade field trip to the Concord Museum scheduled for tomorrow will take place.
  • The Spelling Bee scheduled for 3/14 is cancelled.
  • The 4th grade (Burns/Dillon classes) trip to the STEAM Lab scheduled for 3/10 will take place.
  • The Cake Walk scheduled for 3/21 is cancelled. By deciding this now, both outlay of expenses and time is minimized.  Thank you for your understanding.

School Climate Survey:  Concord Public Schools is looking for feedback from families!  In the coming weeks, families will receive a link to complete a school climate survey.  The information you share will help us to understand what families think is working well as well as areas where we might focus on for improvement.  During the month of March, students in grades 3-5 will also be taking a student version of the climate survey. This feedback is incredibly valuable and I hope that you will take some time to share your thoughts when you receive the survey!

Kindergarten Registration:  Kindergarten registration will take place on March 24th and April 7th. If you know of any children who will be 5 before August 31st who have not received any information from the school, please encourage them to contact the main office.  Thank you!
