K-Spanish Vision and Mission

The Concord Public Schools K-5 Spanish Program

The Concord Public Schools Elementary Spanish Program aims to support students to become linguistically and culturally equipped to communicate in a pluralistic American society, and in an increasingly connected global society. The teaching and learning in the program are student centered and teachers use pedagogy that is developmentally appropriate. The program is based on the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages, also known as the five Cs: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. Students in grades K-5 receive Spanish instruction for

twenty five minutes two times per week.

The focus of the program is on helping students develop a passion for learning languages while developing interpersonal listening and speaking skills in Spanish. They enjoy and learn songs and games that reflect the various cultures of the Spanish speaking world. The  curriculum and the instruction adjustments rely on ongoing formative assessments of student progress. These are  informal and developmentally appropriate.

   Program Vision Statement

  • To spark curiosity, excitement and continued interest in learning Spanish and other languages.
  • To foster a safe and supportive environment that promotes the enjoyment of communicating in another language in a fun and age-appropriate way.
  • To create enthusiasm and respect for other world cultures as well as a desire to learn about and embrace multiple perspectives.
  • To inspire students to share their culture, as well as their interests in other cultures with their peers and their community.

Mission Statement

The CPS Elementary Spanish Program aspires to empower students to communicate in Spanish at their developmental level. The program’s aspiration is to do this  while cultivating a deep understanding and appreciation of other cultures, as well as strengthening their understanding of themselves and their own culture.
