Reading Projects

In an effort to strengthen your child's reading skills and further his/her appreciation for quality literature, we will be reading a wide variety of books this year. At times the class will work together to read and discuss a book with follow-up written activities, while at other times they will work independently or in small groups. Using the Lucy Calkin's Reader's Workshop approach, each lesson will start with a whole class mini lesson around a particular focus such as elements of a story, fluency, character development, or how to approach nonfiction literature. Below is a description of some of our reading units.
